I also had the privilege to be called upon to create the game's new launcher icon.
I worked alongside the Art Director and several others from the Production team to really nail down the look and feel of the expansion. We initially considered an inverse of the normal XCOM 2 symbol, but because of the emphasis on the Chosen and their significance, we decided that red had to be a focus.
The challenges coming from that were mostly trying to make that red stand out among other icons and have a presence. Our previous iterations had tried to mix both the red and blue, but to no avail, the red was just getting lost on darker backgrounds. We solved this issue by eliminating the blue entirely and giving room for the red to stand out.
